for 1898, with octagonal to round rapid taper 26in. barrel signed by the maker and marked 'NICKEL STEEL BARREL ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER', ramp and dove-tailed blade fore-sight, special twin leaf rear-sight with additional standing notch, blued receiver and bolt, top-tang fitted with a period adjustable peep-sight, chequered pistol-grip walnut butt-stock with iron crescent heel-plate Siamese lettering to underside of butt, hard rubber 'WINCHESTER' pistol-grip cap, curved finger-lever, chequered walnut splinter fore-end, half-magazine with take-down catch and fitted with eyelets only for the Winchester sling (missing), strong amount of blued finish remaining
